Namesdays, Birthdays and feasting.....

Today we celebrated Fr. Michael's namesday, Fr John's namesday and Fr Parthenios's birthday which fell in the middle somewhere.

The day started cold and blistery. The wind blew right through you, but it was nice and warm in church. A nice crowd of people showed up for the feast, even some who were new to the parish or at least to me. The agape meal was full and noisy and there was lots and lots of food and lots and lots of left overs. Everyone brought lots of different favorites, a veritable smorgaasbord of flavors. My camera was not functioning properly so I have to settle for painting a picture in words.

Father John intoned the prayer and everyone sang "Many years" to Fr Michael, Fr John, Fr Parthenios and to the many Michaels and Georges that grace our parish.

The parish presented Fr. Michael with a new set of red vestments in honor of his 50 plus years as a deacon. The vestment was abolutely gorgeous and very rich looking! Fr. Michael was quite overwhelmed with joy! He also received a new set of ribbons to use in the Gospels, seven different colors, one to match each of his vestments.

There was lots of conversation, lots of food and dessert, no one went home hungry and everyone stayed late.

Happy Namesday to all the Michaels, Georges and Johns who celebrate with the Fathers and Happy Birthday to Fr Parthenios!
